In Singapore, education has become a part in a child’s life. Every child has to have at least six years of education. It is compulsory. Thus, education and certificates are becoming more and more important here. Without at least six years of education, one is impossible to find a job in such a developed country. The education system in Singapore has given a lot of stress to the students in Singapore. The books are getting tougher through the years. Giving a certain amount of stress to students is good. However, if too much stress is given to a student, it will bring negative effects.
The amount of stress one can cope is like a rubber band. It is elastic but, once u stretches it too apart, it will snap. Just like a guitar’s string, when it’s too loose, it will not work. But when it’s too tight, it will snap.

Life is like those strings. The amount of stress one can cope is limited. Once one has too much stress, it will collapse. To me, I feel that there is no “stress-free” life in this world. Sometimes, stress can encourage one to work harder. But, too much stress can make one to going towards the “stairway to hell”.
Stress can categorize into two kinds: positive and negative. Positive stress is good as it encourage one’s determination to work harder. It also forces one to aim for a higher target. However, negative stress can make one to collapse and even leading to mental problem.
In Singapore, most teenagers get stress because their parents are not satisfied with their school results. Their parents expect them to get high scores neglecting the students feeling. To me, I feel that as long as one gives its best, the result is not a matter. Although good results are important, a person’s health is more important. A person under too much stress can lead to health problems such as depression. Once a person gets depression, it is difficult to cure it. So, parents should have a lookout on their kids for behavioural problems.
In order to relieve the stress that students have from schools, parents should give encouraging words to them often and not reprimand them. Parents should also find some time out from their busy schedule and chat with their kids. They should ask their kids whether they can cope and whether they feel stress up.

In conclusion, I feel that the government should not concentrate so much on academic results. Although academic is important, character building and technical skills are also important. Schools can also organize programmes for students to relieve stress, and on ways of coping stress. Government can also educate parents of stress management so that they can help their children in certain ways.
