General Election 2006
Having a election, and asking Singaporeans to vote, I feel that this have its advantages and disadvantages. But to me, advantages have a greater weight-age than its disadvantages.
Advantages:
1) Election allows Singaporeans has their say about Singapore’s future. They have a choice to choose whom to lead Singapore in future. in some countries, the people living there do not has a say. This encourages riots to occur.
2) Election in Singapore allows the people to push the boundaries. This election allows those who are not working in the government, to have a voice in where Singapore should go into, in the future.
3) Elections allow the political parties to have competition among them. In order to get voted, they must make sure that they are strong enough to being voted to lead a certain GRC. so, they will keep improving themselves, and keeping up themselves with the locals.
Disadvantages:
1) I am sure that there are certain groups of people who do not follow up with the news. Election is important. It decides Singapore’s future. This group of people will not consider so much about Singapore’s future and vote anyhow. They would not care who are the government as they are not interested. They do not think before they act, they just vote as they are supposing to. This may affect Singapore’s future.
2) There might be disagreements and parties may get into arguments, and legal actions in courts may occur. For example: Chee says bad things about PM and MM without evidence.
To me, I feel that citizens above the age of 14 can vote in elections. It is because, between the age of 14 and 21, it is the time where Singaporeans get their education. The people between these ages know about history of Singapore as they learn it from school and it is still fresh in their minds.
If I were to vote, I will vote for PAP. It is because; Lee Kuan Yew is the founder of Singapore. If not for PAP, Singapore will not be what it is today. From an unknown country, Singapore has become one of the most famous countries in the world, with a first class international airport, good ports, and Singapore is always having good comments from its tourists. If not for PAP, there will not be a big thing called the General Election. If not for PAP, Singaporeans will not have what they own now, such as their family, houses, cars, and not all children of school-going age will have their education. If not for PAP, there will not be entertainment in Singapore, such as Mediacorp, Campus Superstar, Project Superstar, Stefanie Sun and more. PAP really did a lot for Singapore and they are experienced. If PAP is not the Government in Singapore last time, Singapore maybe stills a small, normal country, with only human as its resource. If not for Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore maybe still under the control of Britain.....
